Waste Minimisation

The 4 R's

Ways to help minimise the amount of waste we generate.

1

Refuse

To combat the increasing amount of waste in our landfills, it is crucial to adopt a proactive approach to prevent environmental deterioration.

2

Reduce

The subsequent actions can be implemented to minimize the consumption of environmentally harmful, wasteful, and non-recyclable products.

3

Reuse

Prioritizing waste reduction by reusing items instead of purchasing new ones. Materials that cannot be avoided can be transformed into practical items or repurposed into something entirely different.

4

Recycle

Prioritize recycling. Separating waste at home and work is an important step towards improving waste management efficiencies and reducing costs.

Why the 4Rs Matter

Waste Management has developed a comprehensive approach to educate the community on waste minimization, utilizing the 4Rs framework: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. These principles are ranked in order of importance, where the primary objective is to decrease the quantity of waste generated. By consuming and accumulating fewer items, and being mindful of packaging, we can significantly reduce waste production.
